Esports fans will undoubtedly have heard of Gfinity and the amazing professional gaming series for elite teams that they have created, based in Fulham in London. What you may not know is that Zip Buddy has sponsored one of the eight elite teams from the word go.
Ok I'm probably a little biased as this team, exceL Esports, was the brainchild of its two founders, Joel & Kieran Holmes-Darby, who are my two sons. Joel & Kieran came up with the idea of starting a professional eSports brand over a pint in Wetherspoons of all places. They started the organisation about two and a half years ago while Joel was working for KPMG and Kieran was a full-time law student.
Their first team was a Call of Duty team which did incredibly well at all the LAN events they attended. After this they went on to put together teams in many other games such as League of Legends, Halo, CSGO, Rocket League, Hearthstone, FIFA, Gears of War and Vainglory.
Their greatest achievement to date was with their Street Fighter team who, just a week or so ago, won the Grand Final of the Gfinity Elite series in a nail-biting match-up with Team EnVyus, which was live on BBC Three and BT Sport as well as Twitch. This is like winning the UK Premier League at the first attempt! Lovely to see the Zip Buddy logo printed on the back of their team shirts on live TV.
From day 1 they have been handing out free Zip Buddys to their fans, so that almost everyone in the UK gaming industry has heard of the humble Zip Buddy; great promotion, thanks guys 😊
